Some FRiends and I making another video to a Frightened Rabbit song. This time we took on 'The Loneliness and the Scream' which was on their third album 'The Winter of Mixed Drinks'.
I was very pleased with the first video that we had done of "Head Rolls Off" that the idea for another one wasn't too much of a stretch. But I needed a reason to do another one though and desperately wanted it to not just be a repeat of the last one but different and hopefully better.
Then Frightened Rabbit announced possibly their last gig with guest vocalists at Sleep In The Park. In order to attend, part of the deal was to sleep outside on a cold Scottish December night to empathise with the homeless and raise money for Social Bite, a homeless charity. I asked fans, friends and family for donations and promised I would make another video involving them.
It took me a while to get started with the video but eventually I made a complex plan where I split the song into tiny sections including multiple split screens and asked everyone to choose one or two of the bits. I got a lot of videos sent to me but there was videos still to chase up and sections that still hadn't been assigned. I could tell the participants where getting confused by the plan, I was getting confused by the plan too. I started procrastinating.
2019 finished with 2020 and Coronavirus rolling round. While this would have been a perfect time for a lot of people isolating bored at home making tiktok videos, I was working a lot of hours in a supermarket and kept the procrastination up.
Until a few weeks ago where I just wanted it out of my metaphorical hair. I wasn't going with the plan anymore. I just wanted it finished.
It was only when I started it again that I realised the impact and the extra meaning in todays world. People are isolating and feeling lonely yet the power of good music and modern technology can keep us strong and together. I loved this new meaning. I showed the group my latest edit and they seemed happy with it too.
So I put on some final touches and finally, three years later, here's our video:
Thank you to all the participants for your different, wonderful, personalities and all the props, costumes and effort you put in to making your video. Thank you so so much for your patience. I'm really, really sorry I kept you waiting so long.
And as always, thank you Scott.
For the music, and for gluing this community together.
