Olavo de Carvalho, b. 1947, is a Brazilian philosopher, political scientist and writer who is currently living in the United States after having taught political philosophy at the Catholic University of Paraná, Brazil, from 2001 to 2005. The author of a dozen books on philosophical and political matters, he is also a media columnist with hundreds of published articles, and former broadcaster of a hugely successful talk show. He has also taught thousands of Brazilian students across the country with his Philosophy Seminar. Assuming more and more the role of a public intellectual, he became a widely popular figure in his native country and is the most influential voice in Brazilian politics and culture in the present days, even though completely ignored by the mainstream media. He is the man behind the cultural and political revolution that is taking place now in Brazil. In the USA, Professor Olavo (as his students call him) founded and is now the president of the Inter-American Institute for Philosophy, Government, and Social Thought.
