27th of August, 2011, a few days before I turned 16, I recorded a video of myself singing and playing the guitar in the staircase of the building I lived in, in Patras as a favor for a friend from Egypt that I had met that summer during the holidays, that asked me to send her some of my songs, cause she kept mumbling the lyrics and had the melody of "Little Weirdo" stuck in her head for days. I had no means to record it properly so I recorded it with the help of a friend with the camera of a mobile phone.
This video, had many flaws and imperfections but in a weird way, that was the attractive part about it. The natural echo of the staircase, the noises of the elevator of the building, me forgetting the lyrics at some point, giggles and lights going on and off and on again, created a fairytale mood, in the magic land of teenage drama and first time of being in love, where purity and melancholy used to take the form of a cloud and constantly rained on me.
Since I had trouble transferring the video,I decided to upload it on YouTube. It seemed like the easiest way to send it to my friend.
Surprisingly, the next day, I woke up to find lots of comments, likes and positive feedback about it!
It was one of the happiest days of my life.
And at the time, "Little Weirdo" was the last song I had written, and as always, the most recent is the creator's favorite. Since the connection people have with songs, is pretty much the same as the connection with people, "Little Weirdo" and I, have a very special bond. It's where it all began. It's the reason why I started to believe that I can actually do this. It's when I realized that since people can identify with what I have to say through my songs, it's something more than just doing what I love.I t's my friend that made me believe in me.
After a while, I uploaded some other songs of mine, still in the stairs, still next to the elevator that kept trying to make sounds louder that me and my guitar.
That's where Mahayana Records found me.
In the stairs.
That's where I still go when I need to think, and be alone for a while.
There, where it all began.
