The Paris Institute of Political Studies, one of France’s top universities, called in police to break up a pro-Palestinian encampment on Wednesday, as Israel's siege and bombardment of Gaza sparks a wave of anger across campuses in the US and western Europe.
The encampment followed a vote in the general assembly to occupy the Saint Thomas campus earlier in the evening. Subsequently, students began occupying both the courtyard and the cafeteria of the building.
Approximately four hours after the commencement of the courtyard occupation, French police and riot police officers, acting upon the president of the school's request, raided the university building and forced the students out of the building.
The protesters had been demanding that Sciences Po stop funnelling endowment money to Israeli companies and other businesses, like weapons manufacturers, that profit from the war on Gaza.
