A state of emergency has been declared in New Zealand after Cyclone Gabrielle - described as the nation's most severe weather event in years - swept through the north of the country.
It comes just two weeks after the country's largest city, Auckland, was swamped by a record-breaking storm that killed four people.
On Tuesday, a lone sailor was rescued by New Zealand's defence force amid the cyclone.
The distressed sailor's yacht was pushed out onto choppy waters due to the cyclone winds.
