Malaysia’s former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad claimed on July 3, 2023, that it is unconstitutional to promote a multiracial Malaysia. He also criticised the current government of Anwar Ibrahim for being beholden to ruling-coalition members of the Democratic Action Party, which Mahathir said aimed to remove Islam as the official religion.
