Once he recovered from a car accident, he was alone, unemployed, and forced to live in a tent. He began his writings after working his way out of homelessness. His first book, Conversations with God, was published in 1995 and became an international bestseller. He has published 29 books and his works have been translated into 37 languages. Six of his other books have made the Times list. In addition to the CwG series, he also published a number of guidebooks, meditation, and other books.
