The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
A proclamation of the holy gospel according to St. John. Glory to you, o Lord.
When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. When they found him across the sea they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?" Jesus answered them and said, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate your fill, the loaves. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the son of man will give you. For on him the father, God in heaven has set his seal." So they said to him, "What can we do to accomplish the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent." So they said to him, "What sign can you do that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: he gave them bread from heaven to eat." So Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." so they said to him "sir give us this bread always." Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."
The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to help someone but you had to stop and think about it? They're all kinds of reasons that go through one's mind first of all, you know that if you help you are now vulnerable. But what is it that you are vulnerable to? All you have to do it drop off a dollar or two and keep going right? Wrong. You are now part of the story. You are involved. And for this very reason so many people don't give a thing. But what's the harm? Just ask the people that do give. Some people find themselves wanting more. And some people especially when they know who you are, they keep coming back for more. In other words, they know a good thing when they see it. When the people saw Jesus he recognized right away why they were there. Even though they said it was for another reason. They recognized a good thing when they saw it. They wanted to continue to be with this miracle worker. But slowly and surely they began to learn that it was much more than his miracles that attracted them but the person that he was. We must do the same. We must see Jesus for who he is. He is the one who invites us to EVERLASTING LIFE IN HIM. AMEN.
