Congressman Louie Gohmert (TX-01) questioned the Secretary of Homeland Security in a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the treatment of illegal immigrants at the border. He pointed out that children were separated from their parents and guardians during the Obama Administration and stated that any parent or guardian that commits a crime is separated from their children as a consequence of their actions.
He also followed up on Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez’s (D-IL) careless comments stating that the Trump Administration would have left Jesus to die by asking the DHS Secretary, “If Mary and Joseph were trying to come into the United States under the situation that existed, and King Herod was trying to kill everybody under the age of two, wouldn’t they be eligible for asylum in the United States?” to which she answered, “yes.”
