Learn a new language like a first grader!
Improve your foreign language learning with beginning reader books. Just as a first grader learns to read with beginning reader books, you as an adult can improve your vocabulary and grammar with beginning readers.
Beginning reader books, those "step into readers," are stories or nonfiction books written for new readers, usually at the first and second grade level. They procede chapter books in complexity, making them a great place for an adult language learner to progress in their learning.
Publishers for beginning readers often have the "level" or "step" printed on the covers, making it easy to determine how complex a book's vocabulary and grammar is. Start with level 1 and progress to more complex levels. When you are comfortable with the beginning readers, move on to chapter books.
This strategy trains your brain to learn a second language in the same way you learned your first language. Find books that interest you. Check your favorite book vendors for beginning readers in your target language.
The readers I use in this example are from the National Geographic Kids series.
