Thousands of farmers across Indian states have been throwing vegetables and milk on highways and roads in an unusual protest to highlight farm distress that they say has driven them into debt. The growing rural crisis is emerging as a major challenge for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the country prepares for next year's general elections.
