At the time Connie was the unchallenged star of KNXT (now KCBS-TV), she was the highest-paid local news anchor in the country. She left the station in 1983, took a pay cut, to go National at NBC in NYC. However, she worked as a national reporter at CBS News before going local.
Meanwhile, Tritia Toyota was Connie Chung's competitor at KNBC. Both went head to head, anchoring the late-night news at 11 PM. KCBS liked what they saw because they lured Toyota away from KNBC in 1985 to anchor their late-night news. She wasn't a replacement for Chung but anchored the same late-night newscast Connie had anchored.
So which anchorwoman did you prefer in LA?
