The drill of diving and submarine rescue jointly conducted by Chinese and U.S. navies has reportedly become the highlight in this year's maritime military exercise of the U.S.-led Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC). Chinese submarine rescue vessel Changdao set off on Wednesday to start exercises.
The U.S. navy released a docking platform as a simulated disabled submarine at sea to the southeast of the Pearl Harbor and Chinese submarine rescue vessel Changdao, with deep submergence rescue vessel, was required to search and located it for docking underwater.
"Changdao" stopped above the docking platform after locating it via the advanced dynamic positioning system. Then four Chinese operators drove the deep submergence rescue vessel to the docking platform via sonar searching system under the guidance of the Vessel Changdao. After over 20 minutes, the rescue vessel arrived at the docking platform and successfully completed the docking mission.
"Our drill today is a major task as well as a highlight of the joint military exercise. Our soldiers demonstrate excellent professional skills and quality in the drill. I am satisfied with their performance," said Du Changyu, commander of diving and rescuing command.
This is the first time for the Chinese navy to dispatch submarine rescue vessel to join the RIMPAC, which served to enhance its international prestige.
"The success of the drill indicates Chinese navy's new progress and its greater capacity in submarine rescue operation, and our cooperation with navies of other countries has broadened in this regard," said Song Jian, political commissar of diving and rescuing command.
