Let me know if this works for you in the comments below. Variable valve timing is very common nowadays for newer engines. And can cause many problems if your routine automotive maintenance is not kept up.
Don't waste your money on repairs before checking oil level and condition and or cleaning the VVT valve timing solenoids. If you have any of these diagnostic trouble codes stored in your ECM.
Also if your engine oil is in poor condition and starting to slug up I would recommend doing an engine oil flush to prevent further variable valve timing problems.
