We shouldn't have been surprised that Europe's most active volcano was likely to erupt while we were hiking on it.
We went on a 4-day trip to Sicily to celebrate Viv's birthday, and since it's home to mainland Europe's highest volcano, we also brought crampons.
Mount Etna was calm the first few days of the trip, including the day we decided to climb it.
