Bioplastics are produced from renewable raw materials and can therefore make a contribution to sustainability. At the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT we research and develop bio-based and biodegradable plastics.
Whether it is a garbage bag, a ballpoint pen or a dashboard in a car. Every product is different and must meet individual requirements, e.g. with regard to stability, color or starting materials. Fraunhofer UMSICHT develops tailor-made bio-based plastics for a variety of applications from films, fibers, injection molded parts - which meet or even exceed the properties of fossil-based plastics.
We cover the entire development chain, from polymerization to plastics processing including comprehensive material characterization. Our bioplastics can be processed on conventional machines on an industrial scale.
