Rodent Stew was created old school style - finished in 1996. Shot with a 16mm Bolex SBM with no video assist. Sometimes it would be weeks before enough footage was shot that it could be processed and screened.
All the effects - with the exception of a few cross-dissolves - were done in-camera onto the original negative. This includes the wipe transitions, 2D elements, and all other effects. It was lit with a combination of 60W desklamps, 7W nightlights and 100W outdoor floodlamps. The exposure flicker is courtesy suburban household current. All very low-tech and very low budget.
Is it a study of technical perfection?... um...no... is it a little long for a 'short' film?... um.. yea.... but it was a fun film to make and was basically my own training ground in stop-motion. It was a wonderful learning curve at the time. I hope you enjoy!
