Video Transcript:
On the outside, there aren't a lot of differences between the JBL Flip 5 and the JBL Flip 4. The Flip 5 is slightly larger, they're both covered in the same material, and they both have the same 12-hour battery life. The biggest difference on the outside is that the JBL Flip 4 receives power through a micro-USB cable and has a 3.5-millimeter audio port, while the JBL Flip 5 ditched the 3.5-millimeter audio port and charges through an exposed USB-C port. From a software perspective there are a few more differences, the biggest being that the Flip 5 doesn't include voice assistant integration, a mic and can't be used as a speakerphone -- all features the Flip 4 has. Also, the Flip 4 uses JBL Connect+ to connect multiple JBL speakers together (as long as they have JBL Connect+), while the JBL Flip 5 connects multiple JBL speakers together using a feature called PartyBoost -- as long as those other JBL speakers have the PartyBoost feature. Things get a bit more interesting as you dig into the hardware differences. JBL made improvements to the 1-inch passive radiators on the JBL Flip 5 that give the bass pumped out by the portable Bluetooth speaker more punch. Additionally, the Flip 5 only has one 20-watt sound driver, while the JBL Flip 4 has two 8-watt drivers.
Now let's do a sound test where we'll listen to 30 seconds of four different types of songs on each device at a volume level of roughly 80 percent to test how each speaker handles high, mid, and low tones at higher volumes.
