Annie Grace, author of This Naked Mind is answering reader's questions live. Today she answers, what to do when you are missing the high from drinking? It was never really about the alcohol itself. The alcohol was always nice but I was always searching. Reaching. Anticipating. I could take or leave the alcohol. It didn’t taste that good and it’s expensive but what I wanted what I was searching for was that feeling. I wanted the euphoria. The high from drinking. I knew I couldn’t be alone when it came to missing the high from drinking. So how do you deal with it and does it ever get any better?

Missing the high from drinking is a huge reason that a lot of us drink. It’s the anticipation and the knowledge that with that drink you can let go of everything. The bottle holds complete joy and relaxation. Stressors are swirling all around you but meanwhile, a completely different state of mind is just a few sips away. Those sips, that feeling of euphoria that comes over you are why you’re missing the high from drinking.

Getting past that high takes a few steps and work on your part.
