FULL story below:
During World War I, an informal cease-fire occurred on the Western Front involving around 100,000 British and German troops. The Germans placed candles on their trenches and Christmas trees, sang carols, and shouted Christmas greetings to the British, who reciprocated. This led to soldiers from both sides crossing into No Man's Land to exchange small gifts, such as food and souvenirs. The truce also allowed for the retrieval of recently ki11ed soldiers for proper burial and for joint services to be held. On Christmas Day, an officer recalled the unique and strange events of the day, including exchanging buttons with a German officer and cutting the hair of a docile German soldier.
