Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that he invited Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for a meeting, either in Turkey or another country, two weeks ago.
Erdogan made this statement during a press conference in Washington on Thursday, following the NATO leaders’ summit.
He also addressed the issue of NATO cooperation with Israel, stating that such attempts are “not acceptable”.
"It is not possible for the Israeli administration, which has trampled on the fundamental values of our alliance, to continue its partnership relationship with NATO," he said.
