Many who believe in inherited sin (the doctrine of original sin) use Ephesians 2:1-3 as a proof text for why they believe in inherited sin. This would make all newborn babies children of the devil and thus children of wrath. This would imply that God forms children of the devil in the womb. When we compare Ephesians 2:1-3 with Romans 2:14, we can receive revelation about what "nature" can mean according to the Word of God. One is referring to the involuntary nature that we all are born with (a good and upright nature), while the other is referring to a voluntary nature that we have chosen to partake of (a sinful nature that we receive when we sin) and which makes us the children of wrath. Recognizing this allows us to rightly divide the word of truth and see how Ephesians 2:3 is not saying that we are born children of wrath, but that through our sinful lifestyle by choosing to sin and go against the nature we were created with, we by that nature are the children of wrath.
