German news outlet DW asks Richie Merzian questions about Scott Morrison's net zero by 2050 annoucement.
"It is quite puzzling, even for Australians. The problem is the Australian government has aligned its interests with the fossil fuel interests. Whilst fossil fuels are a major export, they don't provide a lot of jobs, they don't provide a lot of income, but they have a lot of political influence, particularly in some regional seats, and that's what's held Australia back for so many decades."
said Richie Merzian, Climate and Energy Program Director, on Deutsche Welle.
