Ball valve or Shut-off valve. Errors and comparison in use. How to find 3/2-way valve with a 2 inches and a flow rate of up to 32 000 liters per min?
Dear friends, my warmest greetings. My name is Marat Fakhurdinov, I am a general director of the company named Process-Line. Our corporation is specialized on selling pneumatics for various manufactures across the Russian Federation as we own a status of an official dealer of world leading pneumatic producers.
With more than 10 years of experience in the industry, I have the opportunity to share my observations with you. And today I will tell you about methods of overlapping of the pneumatic line and about the main mistake which is often made by our clients.
The first method is to use a ball valve. This is the most commonly used locking mechanism. According to the classification of Pneumatics it is 2/2 way valve, with the manual operation and with fixing. We discussed this topic in details in the video, a link to which will now appear in the upper right corner.
Ball valves are quite easy in production and the market is represented by a huge number of manufacturers. Now you can see an example of ball valves manufacturing by the company "VALTEC".
Nevertheless, let's figure out what is the main disadvantage and, most importantly, what is the error while using a ball valve as a locking device in the pneumatic line. While using a ball valve as a locking mechanism, what does happen? Let's look at an example of a pneumatic scheme. Again, here we have a pneumatic actuator, a valve, which controls this actuator and here we present a ball valve in the form of 2/2 way valve with manual control and with fixation.
Thus, we apply pressure to the pneumatic system, begin to control the pneumatic actuator – to one or to another side, and we work out some circle and at some point we come to an end of the production shift or we need to disconnect the equipment. We turn off the ball valve and it seems that this is all, we have fulfilled our task. But what will happen if the valve works? Look. The pneumatic actuator starts moving
due to the fact that our system has some pressure. And that pressure is enough to move the actuator. However, this can lead to sad consequences. The machine or a detail can be damaged, or even an operator of this equipment.
The second method is to use a shut-off valve. And there is another naming "safety valve". These valves are included in the section "compressed air treatment" and any manufacturer has this exact section.
The main error is the location of the shut off valve after the air preparation unit. You thereby deprive yourself of the possibility of servicing the filters and components of this air preparation unit.
Now let's see how the shut-off valve works. Now, we have here instead of 2/2 way, 3/2 valve with exhaust, and if we run it, if will provide pressure to the system, we begin to control the pneumatic actuator. And at some point, we turn off the pneumatic line, and we notice, all the air, in whatever position the valve is, the air is exhausted into the atmosphere. This completely immobilizes the entire pneumatic system, and after it can be safely maintained, installed and so on.
And now, a secret bonus for you. How to find 3/2 way valve with electric control or even with pneumatic control, with a connection of 2 inches and a flow rate of up to 32 000 liters a min. I will tell you the secret: you take the biggest shut-off valve, and observe the technical specifications. Thus, we see 32 000 liters per min, third two inches, this is how it looks like. This shut off valve is 3/2 valve.
