Douglas MacArthur was a five-star general in the United States Army and served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He led the successful campaigns in the Philippines, New Guinea and the Borneo and was responsible for the planning and execution of the amphibious landing at Inchon during the Korean War, which was a turning point in the war. He was also the chief military advisor to the Philippines government before the war and later served as the commander of United Nations forces during the early part of the Korean War. He was relieved of his command by President Harry S. Truman in 1951 due to his disagreement with the President's military strategy. After his dismissal, he retired from the army and later ran for the US Presidency but was not successful. He died in 1964.
