(1) WHAT OIL TYPE SHOULD I USE?
Different climatic conditions require different weights of oil. For our customers here in Florida, we advise on using SAE 30 oil for Kohler engines and 20W50 oil for Kawasaki engines. Main Street Mower always recommends using Air Cooled Engine Oil and OEM filters, as opposed to automotive alternatives . Call your local mower shop to find out more about the appropriate oil types depending on your climate.

(2) HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY OIL?
Both Kohler and Kawasaki engines typically require an oil change in every 100 hours. However, these engines burn about 1/4 oz of oil every hour. Waiting a full 100 hours before the oil change would leave you only about a Quart of engine oil in the machine. Main Street Mower suggests doing an oil change every 50 hours, here in Orlando, due to the heat and amount of use. Remember, running an engine hard and low on oil is the recipe for a blown engine.

(3) HOW DO I CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL?
On Kohler engines and all other engines made in US, thread the dipstick all the way in. For Kawasaki and all other engines made in Japan, do not thread the dipstick, just put it in, then pull it out.
