Hi, I'm Richard from the Grammar Goat English Academy!
Welcome to my English language lesson. This English language lesson is all about idioms. I'll teach you seven idioms which you must know! These idioms are very common and can be easily understood by learners of English.
But be careful! Idioms are useful for students to know and understand - when they are listening and reading. But to use idioms naturally when speaking and writing is more challenging. This is because idioms are context-specific. They belong to very specific and concrete situations.
So, make your goal to understand idioms first - when you are listening or reading English.
The idioms I'll teach you in this mini English lesson are:
a piece of cake
out of the blue
speak of the devil
under the weather
hit the nail on the head
the ball is in your court
a little bird told me
full of beans
Good luck with the lesson and why not choose three of your favourite idioms from the lesson and write three sentences for me to read and check in the comments. How do you choose which idioms are your favourite? Which idioms are the most memorable? Which situation resonates with you the most?
Best of luck with your English language learning and I'll see you in he next English lesson!
