John Makevich is the Director of Distance and Accelerated Learning at College of the Canyons. He oversees the online and accelerated learning programs at the College and is actively involved in efforts to promote the creation and use of open educational resources (OER), or free digital alternatives to costly publisher materials. Mr. Makevich has presented multiple times at educational technology conferences highlighting the relevance and importance of OER and the future of education in a changing world.
John Makevich creates a projection of the future for educators and students. This future will directly assess the cost of education today, and its ever growing rate. John discusses the relevance and importance of free Open Educational Resources and Massive Open Online Courses to help reshape the future of our education.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
