This municipality occupies most of the coast of the Levant of the Cap de Creus massif. Isolated by the mountains, Cadaqués lives in front of the sea and practically separated, by land, from the rest of the Empordà, until the end of the 19th century.
Where Cadaqués is located, many pirate bands used to come to take refuge after attacking ships on the high seas.
The vine which enriched it in the 18th century, practically ruined it with the arrival of phylloxera at the beginning of the 20th century.
Paradoxically, the isolation of the village became a factor of prosperity at the beginning of the twentieth century because tourists were dispersed in areas of easier access ignoring its most remote corners, which made it possible to retain a certain urban virginity which is very much appreciated today. . Cadaqués owes its intact charm to Salvador Dalí who defended it against real estate developers.
