Some say flatwound guitar strings sound better with age - some prefer the brighter tone of a new set at the start of each month. In this video I'll be comparing an identical set of strings set up back to back with the only difference being how long they've been on the guitar. The first set has been on since December 2018, though went a long period of time without being played. The other set is brand new. I've tried to isolate as many of the variables as possible, right down to picking location and mic proximity to give you the clearest demo possible.

The correct answer is that it's up to each individual player. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the demo and which samples you ended up liking better. I myself can appreciate the clarity of the new strings in the acoustic demo, but overall I still prefer how flatwound strings sound once they've been broken in for a few months.
