Nothing new this is no secret in the industry.
Shops pouring down coolant in a sewer
Shops pouring coolant in the shop floor drain or sink because they don’t have a coolant disposal company they don’t want to pay for it.
Or they have a coolant disposal company but over half the coolant goes down a drain the rest goes in for disposal so they have a lower bill it’s all about the money
Shops dumping paint down water drain sewage.
You’d be surprised at how much paint is actually drop down sewage now.
Because now it’s easy to hide because it’s water based here in United States specially California we have paints that mix with water so you can easily flush away and dilute the evidence and clean away the residue out of your drains so it cannot be spotted.
Contrary to belief there’s still a lot of shops that fill small containers with oil transmission fluid brake fluid and other toxic and flammable’s hide them in plastic bags and bury them deep in their garbage that gets dumped and they never get caught.
Insurance companies hammer the body shops on prices of everything and some even giving them a hard time refusing to pay for waste disposal fees.
In the big cities were labor rates and rent is high waist disposal fees are high to from the companies that service them because of their cost.
Their insurance companies lumped things into averages in areas and say for your area unfortunately they include very cheap areas in this average bringing down the cost that they will pay and try to force it upon shops that live within expensive city high rent high labor areas telling them they will not pay that fee.
Uneducated and a little tiny shops just roll over and except this because they feel they have no clout and they are extremely uneducated in the rules laws and regulations of California business. Where are the insurance companies with their dominance of being the 800 pound gorilla in the room get away with this.
And the same goes with refrigerant recovery there’s those who follow the rules and then those those who don’t.
When the insurance companies tell them they will give them a fee for a product and service below what a business can stay in business accepting The business owner will want to stay alive and not go bankrupt so guess what happens. Bad things for the health of people and bad things for the health of our environment.
So if the EPA really had some coneys and wanted to make a example go after the insurance company not the small shops that is being bullied by the insurance company.
Not the technician who is being told by the owner of the shop or a service manager or whoever his boss is telling the technician you have to dump this oil down here you have to dump the coolant over here you have to release the refrigerant out into the atmosphere in the shop because they insurance company won’t pay us enough for it to dispose of it properly.
