On December 15, 2015, members of the Milken Family Foundation, BJE and Los Angeles's Jewish community gathered for a luncheon to honor the four recipients of the 2015 Jewish Educator Award. During the presentation, Israeli Consul General David Siegel told the guests that when a teacher at his child’s school won an award from BJE, the child came home excited and energized. He then challenged Jewish educators to teach their students not only about the history of the Jewish people, but also about the contributions Israel is making today in areas like public security, technology and water conservation. “What Israel does is very important to every city, county and state,” he said.
