The ASR or ESP dashboard light on a Golf/Bora can come on after around 10 minutes of driving but if engine turned off and on it goes again. This is because the ASR/ESP control module is waiting for a signal and if not found then times out after a set interval hence the light coming on. It is often a broken cable above the gearbox that causes it and this video shows how to fix it
