The Supermarine factory in Southampton was a prime target for the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. Southampton was bombed relentlessly while the enemy aircraft tried to destroy the factory, which they eventually achieved on 26 September 1940, killing 48 people and injuring 94 others as well as destroying 1464 houses.
