The Marmolada is the highest mountain in the Dolomites and part of the Marmolada group. It is a west-east running ridge that runs from Punta Penia (3343 m asl) via Punta Rocca (3309 m asl) and Punta Ombretta (3230 m asl) to Pizzo Serauta (3035 m asl) and Punta Serauta (3069 m s.l.m.) leads. This ridge breaks off to the south in a closed, two kilometer wide and up to 800 meter high cliff into the Ombretta valley. The comparatively gently sloping flank on the north side to Passo Fedaia carries the only larger glacier in the Dolomites (Ghiacciaio della Marmolada).
The associate Marmolada S.r.l. is a Ltd. company founded in 1965. It manages the facilities of the Marmolada, the Queen of the Dolomites. The lift facility comprises three funicular lifts that go from Malga Ciapèla all the way to the top of Punta Rocca. The first funicular departs from Malga Ciapèla at 1450m and goes to Coston d’Antermoja at 2350m. The second one from Coston d’Antermoja at 2350m reaches Serauta at 2950m, then proceed with the third lift to the summit of Punta Rocca at 3265m, in front of Punta Penia, which is the highest peak in the Dolomites at 3342m.
