(7 Jul 2019) Conservative opposition party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said after casting his ballot in Greece's parliamentary election that the future is in the hands of the voters.
"Today voters take the decision for their future in their hands," Mitsotakis said after voting in Athens.
"I am sure that tomorrow, a better day dawns for our nation."
Mitsotakis was met by a crowd of supporters as well as left-wing protesters as he arrived at the polling station.
Opinion polls have suggested Greeks are set to defy the recent European trend of increasing support for populist parties, with Mitsotakis a clear favourite to win.
Mitsotakis pledges to make Greece more business-friendly, attract foreign investment, modernize the country's notorious bureaucracy and cut taxes, and has fought to shed the image of family privilege.
