The Hungarian army have begun preparations to welcome the first
American soldiers due to arrive at Kaposvar early on Tuesday
(5/12). About 200 US troops are expected in Hungary, where they
will set up a transit point as part of the massive NATO
peace-keeping force in the former Yugoslavia.

Philip Recar, spokesman for US Embassy in Budapest, SOT: "With
Hungary's agreement to allow NATO troops to pass through and
stage, Hungary is playing a vital role in the peace plan
implementation...the staging area will be under US control."
