In June of last year, we remember seeing a plea for help for a family of dogs in South Texas. At the time, our rescue was at capacity and could not help the family as much as we wish we could have. They were beautiful and we were almost sure another rescue would step up for them.
Late last year, this group resurfaced with another plea for help from a rescue. Now, only 4 dogs remained, only 4 puppies survived after the entire family contracted distemper. We saw no offers to help and we couldn't look away again. We began working overtime to try and find a place for these babies.
Thankfully, these survivors now have a temporary volunteer in South Texas who is willing to hold them in a secure yard while we search for foster volunteers for each of them. These puppies will require committed volunteers and lots of care as they are now living with the permanent side effects of the disease, the most evident being involuntary spasms and enamel malformation.
We have already provided vet care to the only female, Cookie. She was diagnosed with anaplasmosis and was treated before getting spayed. Bodhi, is next to receive vet care and may need the most as his body has taken the greatest toll.
Please help us help this family. We are working incredibly hard to find a safe home for them in Central Texas, but need help with their vet care which will initially average to $500 per pet; Cookie's care was a total of $470.
These dogs are currently living outdoors but we have sent kennels, blankets, and food.
Puppyhood has been tragic for this bunch, but we are now committed to giving them the best life.. what they have always deserved. Thank you for committing with us.
