“My Favorite Things” was created through the musical collaboration of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. The song was written for “The Sound of Music,” a 1959 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical and 1965 Academy Award-winning film. Mary Martin starred in the original Broadway production and Julie Andrews starred in the film. Both Martin and Andrews played the role of Maria, who sang the song “My Favorite Things.” In the song, Maria sings of things she loves, such as “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,” therefore... “When I’m feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don’t feel so bad.” This improvisation of the song is by pianist Charles Manning.
