Heartbeat Alaska: Unalakleet originally aired on November 7, 2002. The episode begins with a history of the village followed by a brief interview with Stanton & Irene Katchatag, long-time residents of Unalakleet. This is followed by a discussion of the barrel project, in which a clean-up effort is underway to get rid of unwanted, used barrels that dot the landscape. The Inupiaq culture is strengthened by culture classes at the local school and a science field trip where students are encouraged to find plants that are useful to their way of life and learn the Inupiat language names. The episode ends with a brief visit to St. George Island.
