Nitrous oxide makes horsepower, but do you know why? Contrary to popular belief, nitrous oxide is not a fuel, but rather, a way to get more oxygen molecules into the cylinder for combustion. As Gale Banks has often said, the coldest, densest air will make the most power. Nitrous is made up of a larger percentage of oxygen molecules than normal air, therefore making it the equivalent of much denser air. As the liquid nitrous oxide vaporizes to a gas, it rapidly cools making it, and the air already in the system, even more dense.
We utilized nitrous in our diesel-powered S10 Pro-Stock truck to set the world record of 7.77 seconds at 180 mph.
