India beat the US in the total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered so far. India has administered 32.36 crore doses whereas the total doses given by the US is 32.33 crore.
Data from CoWin indicates that around 5.58 crore Indians are fully vaccinated till now. This means only 4% of India’s total population has got both doses. In contrast, the US has fully vaccinated 46.62% of its population. The Indian government plans to vaccinate all adults by the end of this year. In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the government said that 135 crore vaccine doses will be available by December 2021. So far, there are three vaccines approved by India
. Covershield made by Serum Institute of India
. Covaxin made by Bharat Biotech
. Sputnik V made by Russia’s Gamaleya Research Institute
Covishield is excluded from the European Union’s anti-COVID ‘Green Pass’ list. This is because Covishield is yet to be recognized by the European Medical Agency (EMA). The vaccine is the domestic version of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India(SII). The 'Green Pass' is a digital passport that enables hassle-free travel into and between the EU countries. Adar Poonawalla, CEO of SII has assured that the issue will be resolved soon, both with regulators and at a diplomatic level with countries.
