Packed up Damien's boat and heading to Hervey Bay for an overnight trip, camping in the boat. We arrived to perfect weather and pushed our way up the island in search of whatever we could find. Unfortunately, all the reefs were lifeless except for the ever-present shark population. Luckily, the tuna and spotty mackerel were on the job and we had a great time catching bulk tuna.
The next day, we were greeted by rain and a solid 1m swell generated by an evil south westerly wind. Our plans of going wide were out the window now, so we headed south back to more sheltered waters.
There we found more tuna and mackerel, along with a couple queenfish and a long squid. All in all, a tough but fun and productive trip away.
I think this is a warm up for a bigger trip further north in the near future!
