The UK has announced that it is sanctioning Iran’s “morality police” over the violent suppression of protests after the death of Mahsa Amini while she was in custody of the police unit.
Britain will also sanction the national head of the “morality police” and the head of its Tehran division. The sanctioned individuals will not be able to travel into the UK and their UK-based assets will be frozen.
According to rights groups, 185 people have been killed in the crackdown on protests, of which 19 were children.
