(14 Jan 2020) Thousands of Venezuelans marched in Caracas to show their support for the government of President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday.
Carrying flags and flashing peace signs the marchers made their way peacefully through the streets.
"Leave my President Maduro to govern his country and we the Venezuelans as it should be, together, as Chavez said, as Simon Bolivar said (liberator of Venezuela from Spain) and now Maduro," said Mercedes Martinez a pro-government supporter wearing a hat with a photo of former President Hugo Chavez on it.
The pro-government march comes on the heels of a much smaller opposition march on Saturday led by opposition leader Juan Guaidó, in an attempt to regain momentum after last week's imbroglio inside the National Assembly called into question who was the legitimate president of the National Assembly.
President Maduro was giving his annual address to the nation inside the chamber of the Constituent Assembly on the grounds of the National Assembly as the march was ongoing.
