Manila, Philippines, day 4.1 - Manam Comfort Filipino Restaurant, Sisig, Chicken Inasal Skewers, Lechon Kawali, Garlic Rice [4K Eating]
Hello everybody,
Shown in this video, is the lunch I had on my 4th day in Manila, Philippines at Manam Comfort Filipino restaurant.
I walked by this Manam Comfort Filipino restaurant a couple times while perusing the Greenbelt shopping area near my hotel in the first few days of being in Manila. Every time passing by it, it looked more and more delicious and tempting. Finally, on the 4th day, I had it for lunch. And, I am very glad and lucky to have tried it, as it has become one of the best Filipino restaurants (if not the best) I have eaten at in my life.
There are 2 sides and genres to their menu - Classics (traditional Filipino cooking) & Twists (modern, fusion and artistic takes on Filipino dishes). Since only in the Philippines visiting and for a short while, the Classics side was the decision, mainly for authenticity’s sake. Ordered was their House Crispy Sisig, Chicken Inasal Skewers, Lechon Kawali and of course rice (Garlic Rice) for the canvas to this great meal.
The main star of the show was their House Crispy Sisig. This shocked me and was the best sisg I’ve eaten in my life. It was crispy not only on the bottom where it sizzles on the skillet; but also the top as well (perhaps from a broiler). Yes, it was fatty; but it is sisig after all. The meat they used were all melt-in-your-mouth tender and cooked very well and fully through. I believe they used a good amount or pork jowl (cheek) in the sisig; a very very good thing. This House Crispy Sisig’s flavor and preparation were all highly impressive.
Manam’s Chicken Inasal Skewers and Lechon Kawali were also very good. The inasal skewers were deeply marinated and seasoned, nicely cooked, aromatic and savory, slightly tangy and salty and just plain delicious. The lechon kawali wasn’t anything out of the norm; but, don’t get me wrong, it too was delicious, perfectly cooked, had crisp pork skin and the inner meat was moist and tender. The kawali also came with 2 dipping sauces (a standard lechon mang tomas sauce and another that was shrimp paste based).
If I could, I would probably eat here once a week, so I could try out their other dishes. It was That good and that impressive to me. Obviously, overall, I enjoyed this meal immensely and I highly recommend it.
Thanks for watching.
