The city of Seattle is expected to clear a large homeless encampment on a busy Ballard block. Neighbors are urging the city to connect the people living there with services and shelter.
The encampment off 54th Street and 15th Avenue stretches along the sidewalk between a busy Walgreens and a Wendy's drive-thru. An employee for the fast food chain said the encampment has expanded from a couple of tents two months ago to more than a dozen.
City Councilmember Dan Strauss told KOMO News the Unified CARE Team has provided outreach to people living in the tents for at least a month, and police have made arrests for criminal activity stemming from the camp.
