Governors To Hold Emergency Meeting Today On Minimum Wage
Governors of the Thirty-six states, on Tuesday, fixed an emergency meeting for Wednesday June 26th, 2024 to resolve issues regarding the proposed new minimum wage.
The governors rejected the ₦62,000 proposed by the federal government, claiming that some states have no capacity to pay and will have to borrow to pay salaries if the amount is implemented.
Meanwhile, the organised labour which is a joint body of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have insisted on ₦250,000 minimum wage which they refer to as a living wage.
The meeting of the Governors followed the stepping down of the memo on minimum wage by the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.
