This video demonstrates the Doppler effect with the ambulance. As the ambulance approaches the listener the frequencies are shifted upward to give higher pitch, the reverse occurs as it increases the distance from the listener. This result only occurs while the ambulance is moving.

The resulting sounds are quite strange in my opinion.
