Halle (Saale), is the largest city of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the fourth most populous city in the area of former East Germany after (East) Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden, as well as the 31st largest city of Germany, and with around 244,000 inhabitants, it is slightly more populous than the state capital of Magdeburg. Together with Leipzig, the largest city of Saxony, Halle forms the polycentric Leipzig-Halle conurbation. Between the two cities, in Schkeuditz, lies Leipzig/Halle International Airport. The Leipzig-Halle conurbation is at the heart of the larger Central German Metropolitan Region.

•The market square in Halle (Saale) is the central and historically significant main square in the old town of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany and is considered one of the largest market squares in Germany. Along with the Hallmarkt, it is one of the city's medieval settlement centers.
•The Handel Monument in Halle (Saale) is the only monument in Germany in honor of the German-British baroque composer Georg Friedrich Handel. It was realized there in 1859 on the occasion of the commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the artist's death as a joint effort between Germans and British.
•The Red Tower is part of the landmark of the city of Halle (Saale). It forms this together with the four towers of the market church of Our Dear Women. Halle is often referred to as the City of Five Towers because of the striking silhouette of these two buildings. The tower burned out on April 16, 1945 due to artillery fire and lost its characteristic spire. Except for the tower conversion, it was restored.
•Two of the four towers of the market church invite you to visit. Once you have climbed the 225 steps of the Hausmannsturm, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the city. A tower keeper and his family worked and lived here until 1916. He used to watch over the city and sound the alarm when there was a fire on the storm bell. A wedding room has now been set up in the southern Hausmannsturm, where couples can exchange vows at lofty heights.

Historically, the square is one of the possible locations of the “Halla” fort, which was mentioned as early as 806, and is therefore one of the earliest settlement centers in Halle. Since the Middle Ages, this has been the site of a Dominican monastery, whose monastery church was converted into Halle Cathedral. In the 16th century, the square was expanded by Cardinal Albrecht of Brandenburg in connection with the renovation of the cathedral.
•The Moritzburg is a fortified castle in Halle (Saale), Germany. The cornerstone of what would later become the residence of the Archbishops of Magdeburg was laid in 1484; the castle was built in the style of the Early Renaissance.
•The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, short Leopoldina, is the national academy of Germany, and is located in Halle (Saale). Founded on January 1, 1652, based on academic models in Italy, it was originally named the Academia Naturae Curiosorum until 1687 when Emperor Leopold I raised it to an academy and named it after himself. It was since known under the German name Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina until 2007, when it was declared to be Germany's National Academy of Sciences.
•The State Museum of Prehistory in Halle (Saale) is the archaeological museum of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
•The Stadtgottesacker is a cemetery in the city of Halle an der Saale. It was built in 1557 based on the Italian Camposanto complex and is considered a masterpiece of the Renaissance north of the Alps.
